Most Western critics had a firm belief that African literature was a reaction to the distorted image of Africa as portrayed in the Western Eurocentric literature. The present article thoroughly discusses the African reaction to the Eurocentric portrayal of Africa and the Africans which had often tended to portray all that is African in an extremely negative way to the Western reader. The research focuses on Algerian literature as a case study.Item Open Access The Attitudes of Algerian EFL Learners towards Learning a Dramatic Text in an Acting Class(Université de M'sila, 2018-06) ROGTI, MarouaTeaching and learning drama in Algeria have become taught through the implementation of multiple methods and approaches and became more rigorous. For getting a clear understanding of drama teaching in an acting class and its impact on learners’ attitudes and responses, this research is conducted to report a new interactive approach to teaching drama through performance in an actual teaching and learning environment and comparing that to the traditional approach. Indeed, we tempt to prove the extent to which the suggested approach can enhance the learners’ responses to the activities and teachers’ different methodologies in class and intensify their communicative skills, also justify their appreciation of a dramatic text under study. Thus, it has been perceived that there was a substantial relationship between the teaching approaches employed with groups and their response and appreciation of the dramatic text as well.Item Open Access Best Practices In Enhancing Critical Reading Among Efl Lmd Universitystudents-an Algerian Experience(Université de M'sila, 2014-10-15) Bouazid, Tayebيهدف هدا البحث إلى معرفة مدى قدرة طلبة السنة الأولى جامعي على القراءة النقدية الصحيحة وخاصة الأدبية منها وكيفية التواصل معها. وقد بينت الدراسة جملة من العوائق التي تعرض لها الطلبة خلال مرحلة القراءةحيث تعين عدم قدرة الطلبة على استعمال استراتيجيات النقد أثناء القراءة لقصةAmbrose Bierceامبروز بيبرس An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridgeتخص الدراسة موعة من طلبة السنة أولى ل م د تتكون من 25طالب وطالبة وقد تم جمع معلومات عن طريق ملاحظة الأستاذ الباحث و استجوابه للطلبة عبر النشاطات المختلفة في القسم والواجبات المنزلية خارج القسم .وقد أثبتت النتائج إن 25مشارك ومشاركة قد تجاوبوا مع الأنشطة بطرق مختلفة حسب استعمالهم للتقنيات المختلفة تمركزت حول القراءة النصية المباشرة وغير مباشرة كالقراءة ما خلف الأسطر والقراءة النقدية البناءة والتحليل والاستنباط الفكري. كما تمت معالجة المشاكل التي تعرض إليها الطلبة خلال القراءة وقد توصلت الدراسة الى مجموعة من التوصيات منها دور الأستاذ في تفعيل آليات استعمال النقد إثناء القراءة مع وجوب تدريس طرق القراءة النقدية لتطوير الآليات الذهنية مستقبلا وتحديثها في كل مجالات القراءة المستقبلية. Abstract The purpose of the study was to examine and investigate to what extent university fresh learners could read critically and respond to what they read namely literary texts and material. The study unveiled the different constraints learners faced when reading. Learners proved to be unable to use critical reading strategies when experiencing a short storyBest Practices in Enhancing Critical Reading Among EFL LMDTayeb Bouazid 67 entitled An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge by Ambrose Bierce. The study concerns 25 first yearLMD students of mixed genders. The data were gathered through the teachers' observation grids, the interaction with the students throughout the classroom various activities, the assigned works and learners' feedback in the class and at home. The findings indicated that all twenty five participants responded at varying rates ranging between those who managed using some critical reading strategies as reading between and behind the lines, interpreting, analyzing, inferring, and evaluating and those who did not succeed and faced constraints at a deep level reading. The study recommended teachers to implement critical reading strategies to promote sound reading and to enhance the quality of education. Students need to be more familiarized with the assets of reading critically so as to pave their ways for more expressive reading skills.Item Open Access Brian Friel And The Yeatsian Model: A Comparative Study/ الكاتب المسرحي الايرلندي بريان فريل ونموذج يتس : دراسة مقارنه(Université de M'sila, 2019-11) أمل رياض, قطيشاتThough much attention has focused on the issues of Irish language and culture in Yeats’ earlier dramatic production of the Abbey Theatre, Brian Friel’s with his contemporary Field Day Theatre worth examining since he reveals a great resemblance concerning Yeats’ thematic dramaturgy especially those challenging the cultural identity. The current study aims at proving that Yeats' dramatic vision, in which Irish language and culture were primary goals for his works, has been revived in the present time by works of Brian Friel. The study proved that Brian Friel follows Yeats' steps in presenting Irish culture. The significant areas of influence include the glorification of the Irish culture, the attitude toward politics and history and the establishment of theatres. To sum up, the study proves that though the tools vary, both writers presented Irish language, culture, and history as national markers that were able to face the cultural challenges of the past and contemporary Ireland. تم تسليط كثير من الضوء على المسرح الايرلندي الأول- مسرح ايبي – متمثلا بالأعمال المسرحية للأديب الايرلندي (يتس) الذي قام بتوظيف كلا من الثقافة واللغة كركنين اساسين في الهوية الوطنية لما لهما من أهمية في تحقيق الشعور بالأنتماء كوسيلة من وسائل مقاومة الاستعمار الانجليزي، الا أن هذه الدراسة تهدف لأثبات أن أعمال(فريل) تعتبر احياء لفلسفة ( يتس)المسرحية و امتدادًا لارائه الوطنية بخصوص رؤيته للجانب الحضاري للغة. وعلية يعتبر( فريل) مجددًا لما بدأه ( يتس)فيما يخص بالجانب الحضاري والثقافي للغة، كما ان الدراسة اضافت أن( فريل) وظف اللغة كوسيلة لمقاومة الممارسات الحديثة لمابعد الاستعمار متمثلة برفضة لهيمنة اللغة الانجليزية على اللغة الايرلنديه ، في حين أن( يتس) وظف اللغة كوسيلة لمقاومة الاستعمار ومحاولاته لطمس الصبغة الحضارية والهوية الوطنية في ايرلندا.وعلية فأن ( فريل) وأن كان قد تأثر ( بيتس) الا أنه يعتبر من أهم المجددين في المسرح الايرلندي المعاصر.Item Open Access The Conflation of Terrorism and Literature: 9/11 and the Aesthetics of Horror and Terror(Université de M'sila, 2018-06) SENOUSSI, MOHAMMEDOur era seems to have indeed become marred by the sweep of diseased ideological politics, widespread violent acts and the outbreak of the plague of terrorism. As a result, terrorism established a stronghold on the minds of artists, authors and intellectuals. In fact, many of those who write about terrorism, art and literature address a perceived link between them in the realm of aesthetics. Critics see modern terrorism as not just a political phenomenon but also as an act that incorporates aspects of media, aesthetics, performance art, and symbolism. Though criticizing the similarities between literature and terror is not new, it has become particularly exaggerated since the events of the 9/11. The terrorist attacks on the American soil, which are considered as the most important event in the new millennium, have led to resume the old disputes concerning the conflation of terrorism and art. Therefore, this paper shall look at the mode in which literature responds to the narrative challenges of portraying violence and atrocities after the 9/11. Ainsi une telle question nous a poussé à choisir la sociolinguistique urbaine comme cadre théorique de l'analyse et ce pour dévoiler la nature qui existe entre langue et identité a travers l'affiche publicitaire.Item Open Access Developing Management Strategies for EFL Pre-Service Teacher Training Classroom Discipline(Université de M'sila, 2018-02) BOUAZID, TayebItem Open Access Developing Poetry Writing Through Selective Teaching: The Case Of A Longitudinal Study Of Efl Lmd Msila University Students.(Université de M'sila, 2016-10-15) Bouazid, TayebThis article investigates Arabic speaking university students perceptions and experiences of second language with poetry writing in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) English stream LMD system, in a variety of classroom poetry writing activities and through a longitudinal study , attempts to reveal the difficulties and attitudes students experience in poetry reading and writing and to suggest selective The findings of this study reveal that lecturers have a significant role to play in helping students overcome barriers to understanding, interpreting and creatively write poetry. Students were subjected to different tests and observations. Analysis of this study revealed positive attitudes about students attempting to produce good poetry writing through ABC, acrostic, free verse, quatrain and cinquain, concrete and colour poetry. Samples of good poetry were selected. Recommendations for improving comprehension and enjoyment in L2 literature studies include selective teaching and modelling of appropriate reading and writing strategies that improve critical and analytical thinking skills, teaching and learning within a collaborative learning environment which fosters the development and exploration of peer ideas and improving students' background Knowledge relevant to the understanding of poetry types.Item Open Access Didactique Et Pédagogie Entre Multilinguisme, Littérature Et Manuels Scolaires(Université de M'sila, 2016-10-15) Machrafi, SaïdIl semble qu'à l'école l'apprentissage des langues implique des manuels qui ne cessent de s'imposer en tant qu'outils pédagogiques a triple vocation scientifique ,éducative et culturelle .Or,la langue s'incarne dans la littérature et et s'y materialise de façon légitime sans jamais s'y réduire .Langue et littérature véhiculent donc pensée, culture et idéologie. De son côté, le manuel scolaire faisant place à la langue et à la littérature est aussi considéré comme transmetteur efficace des principes et idéaux si bien que la réglementation de son contenu fait l'objet d'un contrôle minutieux par les pouvoirs publiques .Parfois et selon les contextes ,les œuvres littéraire complètes deviennes l'objet du contenu pédagogique . C'est le cas actuellement du secondaire qualifiant dans un Maroc où la question de gérer, à la base ou non des manuels, la diversité des langues se pose plus que jamais et avec force surtout que les langues en coprésence ne possèdent ni le même statut ni la même fonction ou valeur et livrent en conséquence des dichotomies. .Item Open Access Du Machinisme à L’humanisme Dans Terre Des Hommes D’antoine De Saint Exupéry(Université de M'sila, 2014-10-15) Zeghib, NardjasLe présent travail porte sur une analyse de Terre des Homme d’Antoine de Saint Exupéry afin de dégager la portée morale d’un récit lié à l’aviation. Dans ce cadre nous tenterons de montrer d’une part la dimension autobiographique du texte et dire comment Saint Exupéry a transposé ses aventures et ses expériences en une matière littéraire, et de l’autre de dégager le thème essentiel évoqué dans ce livre qui est l’Homme et l’humanisme avec ses différentes articulations. Nous avons choisi d’axer notre travail, dans un premier lieu sur l’étude de la structure narrative, pour pouvoir expliquer que le récit est tiré de la propre expérience de l’auteur. Dans un second lieu, nous tenterons de montrer comment l’humanisme et les valeurs humaines s’articulent dans cette œuvre. Mots-clés : Aviation-autobiographie-Homme- humanisme. Abstract : The present work concerns an analysis of Terre des Hommes by Antoine de Saint Exupéry, so as to release the moral reach of a narrative linked to aviation. In this framework, we will attempt on the one hand to show the autobiographical dimension of the text and say how Saint Exupéry transposed his adventures and experiences into a literary matter; and on the other, to release the essential theme evoked in this book which is Man and humanism with their different joints. Zeghib Nardja 20 work, first, on the study of the narrative structure to be able to explain that the narrative is derived from the author’s own experience; and second, on the concepts of humanism and human values in an attempt to demonstrate how they are articulated in this writing.Item Open Access The Effect Of Pragmatic Instruction On The Speech Act Awareness Of Third Year Graduate Students Of English(Université de M'sila, 2014-10-15) Mouna, FrathaThis study deals with the application of the pragmatics research to EFL teaching. The study explored the effect of explicit pragmatic instruction on the speech act awareness of third year EFL students at the department of English university of Constantine1. The speech acts of requesting and apologizing were selected as the focus of teaching. Teacher-fronted discussions, cooperative grouping, role plays, and other pragmatically oriented tasks were used to promote the learning of the intended speech acts. A pre-test-post-test control group design was used. The subjects included undergraduate students in their last year of study in the field of applied language studies. A multiple choice pragmatic comprehension test was developed in several stages and used both as a pre-test and post-test to measure the effect of instruction on the pragmatic awareness of the students. The results of the data analysis revealed that students’ speech act comprehension improved significantly and that pragmatic competence is not impervious to instruction even in EFL settings. ملخص هذه الدراسة محاولة لتطبيق ما توصل إليه البحث في مجال الپراغماتية اللغوية في سياق تدريس اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبية؛ حيث أا تستكشف أثر تلقين قواعد أفعال الكلام بطريقة بينة وواضحة على التمكن من تطبيقها في التواصل الفعلي لعينة من طلبة السنة الثالثة في قسم الآداب واللغة الإنجليزية ، جامعة قسنطينة .1وتركز الدراسة على فعلين من أفعال الكلام وهما الالتماس والاعتذار وتستعملهما في النقاش بين الأستاذ والطلبة وفي العمل الجماعي وتبادل الحوار وغيرها من الأنشطة التي من شأا تعليم أفعال الكلام. ُ يختبر في الدراسة فوجا ن أحدهما يلقن أفعال الكلام نظريا والآخر يمارسها دون تلقين. ّ تبرز نتائج الدراسة أن هناك تحسن ملحوظ في معرفة الطلبة لأفعال الكلام و مهارم في استعمالها و بالتالي فإن الكفاءة الپراغماتية والتواصلية تحتاج إلى تلقين بين وواضح لأفعال الكلام في سياق تدريس اللغة الإنجليزية كلغة أجنبيةItem Open Access English conversational interaction in a computer mediated context : The Algerian Experience(Université de M'sila, 2017-11) Guerza, RadiaLa présente étude adopte des méthodes mixtes pour explorer le rôle de l'interaction conversationnelle dans le développement de l'apprentissage EFL dans un contexte informatisé. Par conséquent, des données d'entrevue de groupe de discussion précurseur seront affichées pour identifier les points de vue des étudiants EFL vers le programme Content Process Product (CPP). De plus, une analyse préliminaire des données interactionnelles du point de vue socioculturel est présentée pour démontrer les instances de l'agence des apprenants appliquant le système d'analyse interactionnelle de Van Lier (2008). Le document se termine par une discussion explicite des implications pédagogiques de l'approche innovante pour répondre aux obstacles de l'apprentissage et aux attentes des apprenants. Une contribution ignificative des apprenants de premier cycle de l'EFL âgés de 23 ans à l'élaboration du programme éducatif en Algérie.Item Open Access Enhancing students to become adept research proposal writers: The case of Master Two-University of Msila(Université de M'sila, 2017-07) Bouazid, TayebThe study reflects the teacher’s observations to students in a variety of classroom research methodology activities to uncover the constraints and pinpoint difficulties experienced by students all through the study terms and to suggest ways in which these difficulties could be overcome and resolved. An appropriation that must be manifested in his writings, however, the attraction to this strategy must be conceived according to the precepts of devolution, that is, the acquisition of the learner of the criteria of evaluation and even of Success of a written production. The pragma-linguistic and socio-pragmatic aspects of language underline both the linguistic forms and the socio-logical features language users opt for and perceive, under a variety of contextual variables and individual differences, to elicit pertinent speech. This paper is articulated around a socio-pragmatic investigation into Algerian EFL students’ appropriacy of speech act realization. To carry out the assigned objective, a Multiple Choice Discourse Completion Task (MDCT) was developed. The participants were 100 third year Algerian students at the university of M’sila, and 13 British native speakers of English.Item Open Access The French Intellectual Presence In Early American Literature(Université de M'sila, 2016-12-15) Mihoubi, HouriaThe Majore purpose of the article is to shed light on the role played by the American men of letters of frensh origins in building the American independent identity.The paper undertakes the role played by Both John de Crevecoeur and philip Freneau's literary works in rasing the American'sawarness of the distinctiveness of the newly settled land as a new nation as well as in ingniting the American war of independence.Item Open Access Identité Et Altérité Dans Le Roman Algérien De Langue Française(Université de M'sila, 2013-10-15) Bouderbala, Tayebيسعى هذا البحث إلى سبر أغوار ظاهرة الكتابة الروائية المغاربية المكتوبة باللغة الفرنسية في علاقاتها بالتعددية اللغوية والمثاقفة وأزمة الهوية، وفي ظل سياقات تاريخية وحضارية يهيمن عليها عنف التاريخ وتطبعها صدمة الحداثة وتحكمها إرادة التحرر. كيف يمكن للكاتب المغاربي الذي فصل عن جذوره الحية وهويته الأصلية، ليرمى به في غياهب الاجتثاث والمثاقفة، أن يعيش هذه التناقضات الحادة، على مستوى اللغة والشكل والأسلوب والموضوع والرؤية والمتخيل؟ كيف يمكن التوفيق بين لغات ذات مرجعيات متنافرة ومتناقضة؟ هل نحن حقيقة في مواجهة أدب المستحيل؟ كيف استطاع المتخيل الروائي الجديد، رغم مآزقه الكثيرة، أن يؤسس لذائقة جديدة وأن يشكل مكونا ثقافيا مغاربيا واعدا تمكن من الارتقاء، عن جدارة واستحقاق، إلى مستوى الثقافة العالمية؟ تطر ح هذه التساؤلات التي تحيلنا على قضايا ثقافية وحضارية جوهرية تتصل بالاغتراب والتهجين والحداثة وخصوصية الشخصية المغاربية. وتتوسل الدراسة بمنهجية تقوم على مقاربة تحليلية، صورولوجية، أنثروبولوجية و مقارنية للإحاطة ببعض الجوانب الهامة من الإشكالية.Résumé Cet essai tente d’explorer la phénoménologie de l’écriture romanesque maghrébine de langue française dans ses rapports aux différents langages et aux différentes cultures en présence, dans un contexte historique dominé par la violence de l’Histoire et la dialectique du processus de décolonisation. Comment un écrivain maghrébin fortement acculturé et coupé des ses origines culturelles salvatrices parvient-il, au prix de divers reniements, à assumer des déterminations contradictoires et aporétiques ? Comment un imaginaire romanesque impossible parvient-il, malgré tout, à forger une sensibilité nouvelle, à se constituer en tant qu’expression fondamentale de la culture maghrébine moderne et à atteindre l’universalité.
