Abstract

Abstract Email is one of the means of communication in EFL academic context, students tend to use it for different purposes, one of these purposes is requesting. Accordingly, the present dissertation is an attempt to investigate the effectiveness of request strategies in EFL students’ requestive emails. To address the questions of this research and achieve its objectives, the researchers employed descriptive mixed method design, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data analysis tools. These tools are; an unstructured interview directed to EFL Master II teachers at M’sila University and a text corpus analysis of students’ requestive emails. These emails were analyzed by applying qualitative and quantitative content analysis. The results point out that those EFL students’ requestive emails are mildly effective, which means that some students demonstrate high effectiveness in their emails. Whereas others show less proficiency, although their teachers offer comprehensive instructions on how to write requestive emails.
