Abstract

Abstract The current study is an attempt to spot light on the growth of the consciousness among Scottish people about the necessity of independence. It represents the struggle which was between England and Scotland before 1707. This year that marked the birth of new relation among them under the name of UK. This latter lasted for more than three centuries till the emergence of the idea of devolution which later transformed into the need for full independence. The thesis reflects its real sense for Scots also it sheds light on the most important arguments that increased their desire to gain it. The work aims at exploring the rise of Scottish nationalism and its role in holding the referendum of 2014. It represents its results and to what extent they affected the UK where they revealed its real image not as it appeared to the world as one unit.
