Abstract
The current study is an attempt to spot light on the growth of the consciousness among
Scottish people about the necessity of independence. It represents the struggle which was
between England and Scotland before 1707. This year that marked the birth of new relation
among them under the name of UK. This latter lasted for more than three centuries till the
emergence of the idea of devolution which later transformed into the need for full
independence. The thesis reflects its real sense for Scots also it sheds light on the most
important arguments that increased their desire to gain it. The work aims at exploring the rise
of Scottish nationalism and its role in holding the referendum of 2014. It represents its results
and to what extent they affected the UK where they revealed its real image not as it appeared
to the world as one unit.
