Abstract
Many studies have been directed at developing alternative ceramics to replace
conventional alumina substrate for an increase in semiconductor integrated circuit
performance .such as light density, greater pin counts. For these purposes, ceramics
substrates should have a low dielectric constant, low thermal expansion coefficient,
and sintering temperature less than 1000°c , namely lower than the melting
temperature less of copper, silver, or gold.
Stoichiometric chemical of Kaolinite and halloysite are Al2O3.2SiO2.nH2O,
Kaolin base clay is rarely used for precision electrical and electronic devices because
of impurities such as alkaline metal, iron, and titanium oxides that significantly
affect electrical insulation and dielectric properties.
In this study using kaolin (Djebel debbagh DD1), dense anorthite and cordierite
were obtained with low-temperature firing below 1000°c for anorthite and 1400°c
for cordierite by controlling the amounts of CaO and MgO respectively, the main
constituent was anorthite (kaolin-CaO) and cordiriete (kaolin-MgO) , determined
from X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis.
