The majority of dystopian stories revolve around frustration with the authorities. The Giver, by Lois Lowry, is an example of a sequel that discusses dissatisfaction with authority behaviours, where it has moved from being enforced physically to being enforced psychologically and biological so it can carry out its ideology, as it shed light on the totalitarian regime and its extreme ways to achieve its goals. Lowry wants to demonstrate that everyone has the right to freedom. Individuals have the freedom to choose their own identities, that something that the authority tries to suppress to maintain its rule over the citizens; by omitting any shape of nonconformity and promoting sameness. We can learn from The Giver that an individual must resist in such a situation to gain individuality. And that knowledge is the power that can be used to both liberate or control. Individual resistance in society is critical to achieving the desired outcome. identity.
