Through a close analysis of the protagonist's experiences, the study aims to unravel the profound effects of trauma and the sense of displacement that arises from living in a foreign culture. Drawing upon theories of trauma and postcolonialism, the study investigates how Naipaul portrays the complexities of the immigrant experience and the challenges faced by individuals attempting to navigate unfamiliar lands. By examining the protagonist’s narrative and his interactions with the new cultural setting, this study sheds light on the intricate interplay between personal trauma, cultural identity, and the longing for a sense of belonging.
