Cytisus is a genus of the Leguminosae family, with six species endemic to Algeria. Cytisus balansae Boiss. (Cytisus purgans) is a rare species of Algeria (Aures, Mahdids, and Lella Khadidja). Phytochemical study revealed the presence of two known quinolizidine alkaloids which are : sparteine and lupanine which were isolated from methanolic extract of crude mixture of alkaloids using open column chromatography and identified by their spectroscopic data (IR, MS, 1H and 13C NMR) and comparing with literature. In the other side, two known flavonoids were isolated from crude mixture of polyphenols which are: quercetin and sarotanoside, using open column chromatography and identified by their spectroscopic data (UV, IR, MS, 1H and 13C NMR) and comparing with literature. Biological study mentioned that Cytisus purgans not show a significant antitumor activity against human breast cancer and human lung cancer but it shows a power antioxidant activity and a moderate antimicrobial activity.enCytisus purgans, Leguminosae, quinolizidine alkaloids, polyphenols, biological activityExtraction, separation and biological activities of some secondary metabolites from the plant Cytisus purgansThesis
